Humanity: Worth Saving?

I want humanity to be worth saving.

I look around and i see the way people act and think. This has all happened before in one way or another, and civilization has crumbled as a result.

So many people see themselves as better than or more deserving than their neighbour. People take from the world, from one another, without reflecting on the impact. Materials are demanded at any cost. Selfishness, greed, lack of any virtue...

I am watching as one group of humans pronounces another group to be their enemy; judging the others for their sins and questioning whether the others should deserve to exist.
I am watching as that other group of humans declares the first group to be their enemy, as well; judging their enemies as evil and demanding them to change or cease to exist.

My heart aches. How is it that after all of this time we still cannot adopt the simplest of rules, the Golden Rule? Why is it so frustratingly hard to treat others as we want to be treated? Why do we refuse to put ourselves in the shoes of another? Does this human race even deserve to be saved, to continue on into the next phase of existence on Earth?

Sometimes i just want to give up on all of them. Sometimes i wish i could just say, "Do what you will. I don't care what you do anymore. Destroy each other for all i care. I'm done with you."

But, i cannot abandon hope for people. I love them. I want to believe that human beings are still worthy of existence on this world. I want to believe that people deserve to carry out another era.

So i thank the few that consistently show me that humanity is not doomed to destroy itself. Thank you to the consistent, shining examples of what humanity ought to be. Thank you for showing us all that people are worth loving, worth hoping for.

Thank you for keeping my faith in the soul of humankind.
